About This Item

Description of Item

5034 - Fading Memories, Too

Jean Cheszek
Palatine, IL    USA

Width: 9"   Length: 12"

Materials/Techniques: Using family photos, I created a montage for the background. I superimposed photos of my parents when they were young adults serving in the Navy in WWII, and when they were older and suffering from Alzheimer's.

Artist's Statement: My parents both suffered from Alzheimer's. This quilt portrays them as young adults when they each served in the Navy in World War II, and as older adults after Alzheimer's had started to rob them of their memories. The fabric in the quilt is made from photos taken over the course of their lives -- representing all the memories that faded as Alzheimer's progressed. The back of the quilt shows the photos which make up the montage.
Jean Cheszek

Dedication: For my parents, Charles and Marion Schroeder, for whom every stage of life was interesting, even Alzheimer’s.

This quilt is displayed with Fast Finish Triangles.
