3" high

Technique
Hand built pottery (stoneware) - elephant ear. Food, oven, and microwave safe.

Artist Statement
I find my inspiration in nature and life around me. My art is my heart and soul. I seem to enter into phases and interests sampling techniques and mediums like some would try new foods. As a lifelong learner I enjoy the challenge of new mediums, looking at each as a different opportunity.

Much of my inspiration comes from the earth, what I sense and see around me. I will never limit my possibilities. My current passion has been the extremely earthy medium of clay, building both functional and sculptural pieces. Often using textures directly taken from plants to embellish the surface, I create for the home and garden.

My love of the arts makes me look at the world in a different light. Everything has multiple purposes and things that may seem useless to some may have great potential in the hands of another. I will always move forward, keep my eyes and ears open to the world around me and be prepared for all the surprises life will send my way.

It is what it is therefore I am what I am.

About the Artist...
Kerry Randol-Johnston received her BFA in Fine Arts from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. She lives and works in the McKinney, Texas historic district with her family and herd of dogs.

ITEM #116

Bowl by Linda Chidsey -

Size
15" x 9"
2" high

Technique
Hand built Raku. For decorative use only.

Artist Statement
In devoting my time, energy and focus to producing beautiful wearable art, extraordinary pottery and unique copper creations, I strive to bring individuality to each piece of art that I design. By utilizing the highest quality of natural stones and gems in my jewelry, each piece becomes an amazing, one-of-a-kind inspiration that provides exclusive and exciting fashion accessories.

I take every opportunity to explore new concepts and ideas to create innovative artwork.  My ceramic sculptures are based on the Raku firing process.  Raku is a magical form of pottery.  I use tongs to transfer hot and glowing pieces from the kiln to a cold reduction chamber filled with combustible material like newspaper, wood shavings and leaves.  The heat emitted from the Raku pottery causes an immediate ignition and oxygen is burned out of the clay and glaze creating unpredictable smoke patterns and spectacular metallic and lustrous effects.  Once cooled, pieces emerge that are truly irresistible.  I find this unpredictable medium an extraordinary way to express my creativity.  Instead of using a potter's wheel for my Raku pottery, each piece is hand molded and no two are alike.  Raku art is a versatile decorative style that fits well into traditional and contemporary themes alike.  The combination of using earth, water and fire produces esxquisitely beautiful pieces that are truly one of a kind.

About the Artist...
In 2010, 2011 and 2012, Linda Chidsey was awarded Best in Show for Sculpture and Mixed Media for the Dallas Business Council Corporate Arts Competition. Her work has been exhibited in numerous art shows and galleries throughout Texas. Linda was the featured artist at the Art House in Southlake and was named a People's Choice Winner at the Flower Mound Independence Festival. She resides in Highland Village, Texas.

Horsehair Raku

Artist Statement
Nature gives us some of the most beautiful and unique images.  In my raku pieces, I create handbuilt forms and fire them in a kiln.  I apply glazes to the inside of the vessels for contrast and then place horsehair on the outside while the vessel is at 1800 degrees.  The unpredictable lines created by the hair engages the viewer with its sense of movement.
